Griffin Exotic Wood

Burma Blackwood
(dalbergia lanceolata)

Burma Blackwood is an unusual rosewood from Southeast Asia.  It is very dense with an interesting grain that is hard to put into words.  There are greys, blacks/browns, and even little bits of bluish color.  The grain varies greatly from one piece to the next.  It gradually darkens to a blacker or black/blueish color, keeping the grey highlights as well.  Reputedly it is good for musical instrument making and detail work.  A fascinating wood.  The endgrain is also interesting.  Click here for an endgrain photo.
