Griffin Exotic Wood

Borneo Rosewood
(melanorrhea usitata)

Borneo Rosewood  is an uncommon wood from Southeast Asia.  The density is high and many have found it to be an excellent turning wood.  These have a very nice deep red color. Rare on the market now.

Shown bare wood, will deepen the red when you finish it (see photo of finished pieces further down this page).

There is no deeper and more vibrant red wood then Borneo rosewood, including bloodwood. Borneo rosewood has a finer grain with less noticeable pores than bloodwood in most cases. These pieces have been drying for about 2 years and are completely dry. We lost MORE than 50% of the wood to make these defect free pieces, there are a lot of losses taking this wood from wet to dry, even in the best case scenario. Borneo rosewood is now rare on the market, and flawless dry pieces like these are virtually unknown. Takes a polish like glass
