gallery grade plus (gg+)=outstanding
with burl eyes/rays over 90% of the piece on two faces.
gallery grade (gg) = Very high
figure with burl eyes/rays over at least 80% of the piece on two faces.
Each piece is striking.
gallery grade- (gg-)= High
figure with burl eyes/rays over 50% of the piece on two faces. May
have very small bark inclusion.
turning grade (usually left
unmarked)= Burl eyes and/or some figure. Still very beautiful.
If there is any sapwood on your piece, it
will be noted or pictured below unless it is just a tiny amount on an edge.
Sapwood often makes for great contrast!
Be aware of some vendors claims of dry wood, it seems to be a very common claim for many woods we have tested to be completely wet after we buy a piece to verify claims of dryness. Our pen blanks are always dry, but other pieces are marked on the item if it is truly dry (below 12% moisture). This wood can be a lot of trouble to dry in thicknesses over 1".
